We are against proposals for building over part of Down Lane Park, N17.
We are not satisfied by assurances that the proposals would not result in a net loss of open space and we are concerned that land which would be added to the Park under the proposals may be contaminated and unsuitable for use.
We believe in the principle that park land should almost never be built on, except rarely for the purpose of providing facilities for recreation. Unless this principle is observed, local authorities will always be tempted to find an excuse to build over open space, to the detriment of future generations.
