David Launches Campaign Against Third Runway at Heathrow6.49.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 17th Sep 2008 David Schmitz, the Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Tottenham, has launched a petition against the proposed third runway at Heathrow Airport, In a speech at an all-party meeting in Enfield on the 15th September and at discussions afterwards, he reiterated the Lib Dem's opposition both to the third runway scheme and to proposals to abolish the practice of "runway alternation" which for now gives 6-hour breaks from aircraft noise to residents below the flight paths. "It is very important that this campaign be pursued everywhere in London" David says, "because if this is done, BAA and the other proponents of the scheme will not be able to dismiss environmental campaigners as mere NIMBYs. Also, it will make clear to the government that if they approve either scheme, the electoral costs will be felt far and wide." The Lib Dems are the only major party which is unequivocally against the Heathrow expansion proposals.
